When a soldier is deployed oversees, the needs of that soldier’s family continue while he is away. Occasionally there are challenges faced by the families left behind including lack of funds to buy food, unexpected home repair or an emergency. Thankfully, there is an organization that assists these families in their times of need — Operation Homefront.
Founded in 2001, Operation Homefront is a nonprofit organization that provides emergency assistance to the families of military service members including those wounded in action with a focus on American military personnel and/or their families who have unmet needs due to financial hardship, death, injury, or physical or mental detriment as a result of service in Iraq or Afghanistan. Through the support of public donations as well as a collaborative team of exceptional staff and volunteers, Operation Homefront helps to alleviate a military family’s or individual’s actual/complete emergency financial burden, as well as counseling and/or recovery support. Last year, Operation Homefront helped more than 160,000 military families, providing financial assistance, emergency food, baby items, home repairs, moving assistance and transitional housing for wounded servicemen.
World Financial Group (WFG) and The WFG Foundation, an independent, nonprofit organization, has similar mission to Operation Homefront — helping families. WFG will donate much needed school supplies to soldiers’ families located in Nevada. The donation consists of more than: 300 backpacks, 300 spiral themed notebooks, 300 “five subject” notebooks, 200 calculators, 1,100 pencils and 280 rulers.
Additionally, The WFG Foundation is presenting a donation of $2,000 to the Nevada Chapter of Operation Homefront. The school items will be on display at The WFG Foundation booth during the Convention of Champions 2011 on Wed., Aug. 3, with the presentation to Operation Homefront the next day.
