We at World Financial Group sponsor an impressive roster of athletes. The Ferbey 4 are taking the “house” by storm as they seek curling titles and a spot on Canada’s Olympic roster. The Pac-10 football teams are enjoying another season to determine who will play in the Rose Bowl. Brad Fritsch, our PGA golfer, recently scored a hole in one at the Nationwide Chattanooga classic. And the US Luge team is has started sliding in their current season.
No matter where you look, sports are played on some level. Athletes usually get their start during their high school years. Those that succeed there are invited to play for a college (such as our fine athletes in the Pac-10). After that, a professional level awaits. Regardless, no matter the sport, you can find it being played at some level around the world. And someone in WFG recognized that. With the help of WFG Senior Vice Chairman Carl Meldrum, World Financial Group is proud to sponsor the Nanaimo Clippers of the British Columbia Hockey League.
Who are the Clippers? They’re a “Junior A” league hockey team that compete against other teams in the British Columbia province. The Clippers have been playing since 1972 and have won five league championships. Currently overseeing the Clippers is head coach and general manager Bill Bestwick. This year marks his ninth season, which will add to his running totals as the most victorious coach the Clippers have had. Players for the team range in age from 17 to 20 and play at the Frank Crane arena. Players in this league move onto the college ranks and then upward.
The BCHL boasts seventeen teams divided into three divisions: The Coastal-Island, the Coastal-Mainland and the Interior conference. Teams include the Burnaby Express, the Surrey Eagles, the Salmon Arm Silverbacks and the Westside Warriors. Currently, the Clippers are in second place in the Island division.
