The last "slides" for the 2008 calendar year took place in Germany over the weekend. And the USA Luge team can look forward to the December Holiday period with two bronze finishes and other indidivual accomplishments on all fronts.
The bronze came from Winterberg, Germany on Saturday. Our relay team of Bengt Walden, Ashley Walden, Christian Niccum and Dan Joye finished third in the relay event. Their time of 2:27.089 was only behind the teams of Germany (2:26.429) and Austria (2:26.706). This is the second bronze medal for our relay team in as many weeks.
Individually, Erin Hamlin of Remsen, NY had her second top-10 finish of the year. Her combined time of 1:53.375 was enough to place eighth on the women's slide. Not too far behind her was teammate Ashley Walden, whose 1:53.857 was good for 12th.
In juniors competition held in Oberhof, Summer Britcher also place third on Saturday. Her time of 1:19.99 was less than a second from the second and first place finishers.
The US Luge team will be taking a holiday break and resume their quest for the World Cup in 2009. We at WFG send our congratulations and our best wishes to these fine athletes.
