World Financial Group (WFG) independent associates are exceedingly dedicated to helping families have better financial futures, and they also are extremely devoted to giving back to their communities through charitable works. When it comes to helping raise awareness and funds for a good cause, measures taken to help can be varied. In the case of one WFG associate, it meant camping out on a roof in freezing temperatures for 24 hours to help raise funds that will support finding a cure for Muscular Dystrophy.

Meet Jay Dingler, a WFG Senior Marketing Director and avid supporter of Muscular Dystrophy Canada. Jay set a goal of raising $5,000 to donate for the cause, but in just four weeks of fundraising he surpassed the goal to reach $5,300. For this achievement, Jay was invited to participate in the annual Edmonton Fire Fighter Campout in February that takes place on the rooftop of the fire hall. This was the first year the Fire Department opened the campout to the public, but, out of 150 invitees, Jay was the only person who committed to attending.

The campout allows contributors to “experience” the symptoms Muscular Dystrophy and so they can try to understand the disease.  “I can only describe the experience as ‘exhilarating’. Giving is just an extension of our mission and there is more than one way to help or give for the sake of giving,” says Dingler. The fire department had an overall goal of raising $100,000, which they reached with the help of the community supporters.

  1. How amazing to see someone show such dedication to showing awareness of this horrible disease. I myself have seen the destruction this disease caused in my own family. How proud I feel to work for an organization with associates such as Jay Rutgers… Thank You
