At the World Financial Group (WFG) Corporate Headquarters in Johns Creek, Ga., many employees have these donation boxes for the annual Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) “Light the Night” walk on their desks, as part of an effort to raise money to support research agency specifically focused on finding cures and better treatments for people with these blood cancers. On October 1, the WFG Walk Team will participate in a local “Light the Night” walk at the Cumming, Ga. Fairgrounds, spearheaded by Kelly Latorre.
Kelly, who has led the effort since 2005 and the WFG Walk Team Captain for the “Light the Night” event, works in the Commissions Department as a Senior Points and Incentives Analyst. Among her daily duties include calculating each associates’ businesses’ performance and to let associates know how their businesses are progressing.
For Kelly, her involvement with the LLS is personal. “I’ve had several relatives who have been diagnosed with cancer, and my grandfather had leukemia. So when I was approached by our Human Resources Department to lead the team, I said yes.”
The walk is a leisurely-paced walk that runs up to two and a half miles at night. Participants walk with illuminated balloons — white for survivors, red for supporters and gold in memory of loved ones who succumbed to cancer. Families of WFG employees also participate in “Light the Night”. Kelly tells WFG Gives Back, “It’s a very family friendly walk. We’ve even seen people bring their babies in strollers.”
The World Financial Group Corporate Headquarters donates $2,500 to the LLS “Light the Night Walk” in addition to the funds raised by employees. As a result, WFG donates close to $5,000 for this worthy endeavor.
