The World Financial Group-sponsored curling rink of Team Ferbey competed in the 2011 BDO Classic in Oshawa, ON from Jan. 26-28. After a few weeks off, the team of Randy Ferbey, Brad Gushue, Mark Nichols and Ryan Fry returned to the house to seek a win in the Grand Slam of Curling.
Their first opponent was the rink of Pat Simmons of Davidson, SK on the Jan. 26. While the team in the WFG curling shirts had the hammer, Simmons won the match 6-5 in eight ends. But Randy had best accuracy with 88%.
Team Ferbey faced two opponents on Jan. 27. First up was Glenn Howard’s rink from Coldwater, ON. Howard had hammer and used it to win 6-2 in six ends. Ryan Fry had best accuracy among the Ferbey team with 95%. Later that day, the WFG-sponsored curling rink faced Jim Cotter of Vernon, BC. Although Randy had the hammer, Cotter won the match 6-3 in six ends. Again, Ryan had the Ferbey team’s best accuracy rate with 92%.
On the final day of the BDO Classic, there were two matches: the first was against the rink of Don Walchuk of Edmonton, AB and the second against Mark Bice and his team from Sarina, ON. Walchuk won the first match 8-4 against the WFG-sponsored Ferbey team in seven ends, despite our guys having the hammer. Randy had best accuracy with 92%.
The second match proved to be the Ferbey’s best. Randy had the hammer against Bice’s team and used it to win 8-1 in six ends. Brad Gushue had best accuracy with 88%. However, with a 1-4 record in the BDO classic, the guys in the WFG curling shirts were eliminated.
