The World Financial Group-sponsored curling Team Ferbey visited Clermont, Que., to take part in the Challenge Casino de Charlevoix on Nov. 26-28. Last year, Randy’s rink won the event outright. Would Randy’s new team with Brad Gushue, Mark Nichols and Ryan Fry repeat as champions?
Team Ferbey’s first match was opposite Mike Kennedy’s rink from Montreal on Thursday afternoon. With the hammer, our men in the WFG curling shirts won this one soundly in four ends by a score of 8-0. Later that day, Randy and the guys faced Pierre Charette’s rink from Gatineau, Que. Pierre’s rink had the hammer and used it to beat our team 6-4 in eight ends.
Friday saw our team start their day with a match opposite Martin Ferland’s team from Trois-Rivieres, Que. This match was all Martin, as he used the hammer to win 5-1 in six ends. But Team Ferbey would bounce back later in the evening against Jamie Murphy’s rink from Halifax, N.S. Although Jamie had the hammer, our WFG curling team won this match in six ends with a score of 10-5. Six of those rocks came in the fourth end. Way to go, guys!
Saturday morning featured a tie-breaking match opposite Guy Hemming’s rink from Montreal. Guy had the hammer, but Team Ferbey only needed seven ends, including a four rock seventh end, to win this one 10-3. But in the quarterfinals, held Saturday afternoon, Randy and the guys drew Serge Reid’s rink from Saguenay, Que. Serge had the hammer and used it to win 7-3 in seven ends.
We’ll see Team Ferbey again on December 1-5 at the 2010 Canada Cup in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Keep reading wfgsports.com for the latest action in “the house”!
