From Dec. 1-5, the World Financial Group-sponsored Ferbey curling rink took on Canada’s top curling rinks at the 2010 Canada Cup in Medicine Hat, Alberta. While Randy Ferbey, Brad Gushue and Mark Nichols competed, Marcel Rocque filled in for Ryan Fry in this contest.
Team Ferbey began the Canada Cup on Dec. 1 against the rink of Rob Fowler from Winnipeg. Our men in the WFG curling shirts had the hammer and used it to win 7-5 in nine ends. Marcel threw the best accuracy rate with 86%. Later on Wednesday, Randy and the guys took on Serge Reid from Jonquière, Quebec. Although Serge had the hammer, Team Ferbey won this one 8-3 in six ends. Both Randy and Marcel had 95% accuracy on their shots.
Dec. 2 saw only one match for the WFG curling team. Their opponent was the up-and-coming rink headed by Mat Camm from Ottawa. Once again, Team Ferbey used the hammer to win 7-2 in eight ends. Brad Gushue led all in the accuracy rating with 89%. Well done, Brad!
Fri., Dec. 3 found Team Ferbey in “the house” twice. Their first opponent was Mike McEwen’s rink from Winnipeg. Sadly, McEwen’s rink handed our WFG curling rink their first loss of the tournament by a score of 8-3 in eight ends. Marcel had the best accuracy of anyone on the ice with 97% Up next was 2010 Vancouver Olympic gold medal winner Kevin Martin’s rink out of Edmonton. And, despite putting up 8 rocks in nine ends, Martin’s rink put up 11. This knocked Team Ferbey out of the Canada Cup.
But take heart, Ferbey fans. Our World Financial Group-sponsored curling rink will return to action starting on the 15th at the Swiss Chalet National in Vernon, BC. Keep reading wfgsports.com for all the latest on our favorite rock throwers!
