The 2011 World Professional Chuckwagon Association season continued at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede in Medicine Hat, Alberta from June 9-12. Competing at the event was none other than World Financial Group (WFG)-sponsored chuckwagon racer Buddy Bensmiller. Let’s review his results.
Day one saw Buddy in the sixth heat opposite Darcy Flad and Barry Hodgson. Buddy and the WFG tarped wagon had a great day with a time of 1:03.10, a very tight race separating the drivers by less than three quarters of a second. This time not only earned him first place in the race, he also earned 15 points in the standings. Although day two showed a slight change of pace for Buddy, Darcy and Barry as they raced in the fourth heat, it didn’t matter to Buddy. He crossed the finish line first with a time of 1:01.68, over a half second ahead of Barry, earning him 29 points.
On day three, Buddy faced the same two opponents in heat five. Once again, Buddy and the WFG wagon were victorious with a time of 1:03.21. Buddy earned his highest point total of the event with this race: 32.
The last day in Medicine Hat saw Buddy opposite two new drivers: Codey McCurrach and Chance Bensmiller, Buddy’s son, in the fourth heat. In a race not held for points, Buddy’s time of 1:02.54 put him in third place.
Overall, Buddy finished the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede in 16th place with a combined time of 3:07.99 and 76 points. He remains in the top 20 in the current world standings with 170 points. Buddy will get a chance to improve in the ranking at the Badlands Dinosaur Derby in Drumheller, Alberta beginning June 17.
