The recent earthquake and resulting tsunami that affected Japan on March 11, 2011 has resulted in immeasurable devastation. The number of lives lost, towns washed away, and damage to infrastructure is incomprehensible – no words can accurately describe the loss incurred.
In response to the concern of employees and a desire to help those in need, the AEGON Transamerica Foundation has stated that it will match all funds raised by its U.S. employees.. To do its part, World Financial Group (WFG), an AEGON company and a member of the Transamerica Life & Protection group, is planning to help by raising funds to donate to the AEGON Transamerica Foundation. The Foundation is working with the assistance of colleagues in Japan and Hong Kong to ensure the monies raised are donated to an appropriate charity can make the greatest impact in helping the people of Japan. The funds raised will go to the Red Cross efforts in Japan.
WFG employees can give as individuals to the Foundation but there are plans to have a group event – such as a $3 jeans day – to help raise funds. As Dwight Wood, WFG’s Vice President of Human Resources, notes, “WFG employees have always been very concerned about helping victims of disasters worldwide. I expect that the donations raised by WFG to help the people in Japan to be substantial.”
